 n the one hand\, mathematicians are no climate scientists. On the other ha
 nd\, climate research relies heavily on computational simulations that are
  based on advanced mathematical techniques. As we will see in the course o
 f this lecture\, mathematics has a lot more to offer than just some tools 
 for quantitative calculations. Examples discussed will include mathematica
 l modelling\, the rigorous justification of theories\, advanced data analy
 sis\, and the bridging of language barriers.\n\nEinerseits sind Mathematik
 er*innen sind keine Klimawissenschaftler*innen. Andererseits stellt die Co
 mputersimulation\, die ja auf mathematischen Rechentechniken beruht\, das 
 vielleicht wichtigste Werkzeug der Klimawissenschaft dar. Die Mathematik h
 at allerdings\, wie wir in dieser Vorlesung sehen werden\, weit mehr anzub
 ieten als nur schlaue Rechentechniken. Beispiele werden zeigen\, dass sie 
 bei der Bildung von Theorien\, bei deren rigoroser Absicherung und bei der
  Analyse komplexer Beobachtungs- und Simulationsdaten ebenso beitragen kan
 n\, wie bei der Überbrückung von manchmal unerwarteten Sprachbarrieren.\
 n\nDer Vortrag wird auf Deutsch oder Englisch gehalten\, je nach Publikums
